Media Practitioners Training Workshop on Social Protection

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung will be holding a regional workshop to enable media practitioners and journalists to report fairly and accurately about social security and social protection developments in the SADC region and beyond. The workshop shall also give participants an opportunity to attend the 2019 International SASPEN Conference. The workshop shall take place from 12-13 August 2019 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In 2014, the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Zambia held a training workshop for media representatives and journalists in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. The Centre for International and Comparative Labour and Social Security Law (CICLASS, University of Johannesburg), the University of Witwatersrand and an administration expert and FES conducted the training. It is against this background, that the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung will be holding a follow up regional workshop to enable media practitioners and journalists to report fairly and accurately about social security and social protection developments in the SADC region and beyond. The workshop shall also give participants an opportunity to attend the 2019 International SASPEN Conference. The Media Practitioners Training Workshop on Social Protection shall provide an avenue to understand different aspects of social security and social protection. The workshop shall attract experts from academics, UN agencies, International Organization and Social Protection experts to disseminate variable information on policy and legal framework, political economy of social protection and sharing practical knowledge on feature stories (Human-interest stories) development and handling. The workshop shall take place from 12-13 August 2019 in Johannesburg, South Africa
