Social protection Week in Zambia

The Government of Zambia, through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS), officially launched the 2025 National Social Protection Policy on 27 March 2025. The policy adopts a comprehensive life-cycle approach, with an objective to support individuals from childhood through old age. The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Lusaka and its partners, through the initiative of the Social Economic Forum (SEF) brought together a diverse group of stakeholders such as policymakers, politicians, civil society organizations, and Trade Unions to engage in dialogue, exchange ideas and propose solutions to pressing social and economic problems Zambia is facing today.

Discussing a Policy that Adopts a Life-cycle Approach

The Social Economic Forum (SEF) is an initiative of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Lusaka and its partners namely; -The Southern African Social Protection Network (SASPEN), the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR), Consortium for the Rights and Welfare of Older Persons (CROP) the Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) and the Zambia Congress Trade Unions (ZCTU).
The SEF is a platform for discussing and analyzing social and economic issues, policies, and challenges that affecting Zambia. The forum brought together a diverse group of stakeholders such as policymakers, politicians, civil society organizations, and Trade Unions to engage in dialogue, exchange ideas and propose solutions to pressing social and economic problems Zambia is facing today. This particular Forum is taking place during the Social Protection week organized by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Zambia and was graced by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS), Ms. Angela Chomba.
