Advancing Social and Economic Justice for All

The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in Zambia social and economic justice program focus area works towards promoting social dialogue, inclusive and social and economic justice rooted in social democratic values.

The social and economic justice aim to reduce inequality, strengthen workers’ rights, promotes decent, living wages and ensure that economic growth and development translate into improved standards of living for all Zambians especially formal, informal workers and marginalized groups.

The focus area emphasizes social and economic justice within the broader democratic framework by supporting transparent governance, political accountable institutions, and participatory policy influencing. Further, by fostering informed public dialogue on social and economic policy development and reforms, public finance, debt management and social protection coordination strengthening, tailored to building a more socially and economically just society where economic opportunities are shared more fairly and citizens have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect livelihoods of the majority Zambians.

The foundation collaborates with social partners such as the trade unions, civil society organizations, professional organizations, academicians, and policymakers to through policy research, policy dialogues fora, joint workshops, and seminars ensuring that these non-state actors are part of international dialogue on key social and economic justice issues that promotes the ideals of social democracy.
