Empowering Women: Championing Political Participation and Electoral Rights for 2026 and Beyond

As Zambia approaches the 2026 general elections, the Zambia National Women’s Lobby (ZNWL) in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Foundation Zambia Office convened a  dialogue platform under the theme “Championing Women’s Political Participation for 2026 and Beyond.” This high-level engagement brought together aspiring women candidates, political party representatives, traditional leaders, civil society and the media to collectively reflect, strategize, and commit to advancing inclusive political participation in Zambia.

Women should effectively participate in making decisions about matters that affect their lives

Women are in the majority in Zambia and should effectively participate in making decisions about matters that affect their lives. The platform therefore, was centred on exploring ways to strengthen women’s rights in political and electoral processes. This activity additionally, reviewed the importance of utilising technology and building alliances to enhance women’s political participation. It was a platform that gave participants an opportunity to reflect on women’s electoral and political participation in the last ten years and further identify actions necessary for enhancing their involvement. The dialogue platform resulted in key recommendations for stakeholders that will improve the participation of women in leadership and decision-making processes at all levels.
