Workshop for ZCTU constituencies on Curbing IFFs

Taxation of Multinationals, especially the mining sector has for most times been at the center of hullabaloo in Zambia.

Taxation of Multinationals, especially the mining sector has for most times been at the center of hullabaloo in Zambia. Arising from the (AU-EC) report where the country is reported to be losing a lot of money annually and the more recent report in first quarter 2018 by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) that the country had lost billions through tax evasion by a single mining entity (First Quantum Minerals - Canadian Firm), the state of affairs rises questions to the ability of the Revenue Authority to collect the fair share of taxes from Multinational Companies.

Therefore, corrective measures must be taken to ensure that IFFs are curbed from the sector, this necessitated the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions to undertake sensitization workshops among its constituencies on the Social- Economic impact of Illicit Financial Flows on the citizenry. The objectives of these workshops are to analyse the effectiveness of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Zambia, to establish practices of Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) in Zambia and to propose tangible solutions to cab illicit financial flows in Zambia.
