International Country Workshop Mozambique: Strengthening Social Protection Frameworks and National Policy

Mozambique was one of the first countries in the Southern African region to host the International Country Workshop (ICW) on social protection with the objective of reviewing its national legal and policy social protection frameworks.

Mozambique continues to make progress in the provision of social protection, however, the COVID-19 pandemic brought great economic and social challenges and exposed gaps in the frameworks utilised by the country.

Mozambique was one of the first countries in the Southern African region to host the International Country Workshop (ICW) on #socialprotection with the objective of reviewing its national legal and policy social protection frameworks. Over the years, Mozambique continues to make progress in the provision of social protection through various national programmes informed and guided International and national protection frameworks.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought great economic and social challenges and exposed gaps in the national legal and policy frameworks, presenting an opportunity to take stock of existing frameworks.

In this regard, SASPEN (Southern Africa Social Protection Experts Network) and FES (Fredrick Ebert Stiftung Zambia Office) in partnership with PSCM-PS (Mozambique Platform for Social Protection), and the ILO (International Labor organization) / EU (European Union) and the Ministry of Gender Child and Social Action (MGCAS), will be hosting follow up International Country Workshop (ICW) that will be concluded by a high-level meeting with key stakeholders in the social protection in Mozambique inclusive of and/ or heads of cooperation of the European Union, Embassy of Sweden, Ministry of Gender and social Action (MGAS), National Institute of Social Action (INAS), Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and representatives of the Assembly of Republic of Mozambique (AR).
